Danny tended to keep her at an arms length though, never really committing to a full relationship. Soon after Danny left her to go to the Marine's. When he returned they remained friends with Mary continuing to want more without telling Danny her real feelings. At the end of Season One, Danny was called off to war again. Before he left, he and Mary made love one last time not knowing if it would be the last. Thankfully Danny returned alive though he was emotionally scarred from being in Iraq. He proposed to Mary, she accepted. However Mary came to realize he wasn't truly ready to marry her so she gave him back his ring and attempted to move on with her life. On Valentine's Day last year Mary received some roses and a necklace from a secret admirer. Later her secret admirer revealed himself to be Jake Porter, a millionaire moonlighting as lawyer in the public defender's office. The two fell in love and moved in together after spending a few week in Hawaii together. But Mary grew annoyed when Jake continued to spend more and more time at work leaving her alone at home. When she attempted to break up with him, he proposed marriage. Mary turned him down knowing she would always come second in his life. After breaking up with him for good Mary vowed to Delinda that she will never be a doormat again and she is going to quit falling in love with every guy she meets.
